About Kingsfield Linguistics

Kingsfield Linguistics offers courses, taught and designed by Benjamin Cannicott Shavitz, a former college linguistics professor. These courses teach students from outside of linguistics practical language-related skills that can help them work toward their personal, professional, and creative goals. They are useful for language learning, writing, learning dialects for performance, and more.

There are numerous applications for an understanding of how language works. In the modern world, the ability to learn new languages and a mastery of the fundamentals of formal writing are important professional skills, an intimate understanding of the form of language is extremely important in creative writing, and the ability to not only learn accents to fit parts but also to pass those accents off as authentic is very valuable to actors. And, since humans navigate the world through language, a deep understanding of language is also useful for a lot more. Knowledge of linguistics is not widespread outside of academia and Kingsfield Linguistics aims to fix that, with the practical needs of individuals in mind.
